Yaro Katkov

Yaro Katkov, Lookout 34, was in his second season as a lookout volunteer and was recently hired by Cal Fire as a firefighter.  On July 29, 2019, while on a training hike with his Cal Fire crew in De Luz, he suffered a medical event.  Despite efforts by his crew and a helicopter evacuation, he passed away in Temecula Valley Hospital.  Yaro, 29, is survived by his mother, father, and brother.

 On July 30, 2019, the High Point flag was flown at half-staff in commemoration of Yaro’s contributions.

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday August 6th at 1100 am.

Yaro Katkov Family Support Fund

Yaro Katkov, a CALFIRE Firefighter in the San Diego Unit passed away on July 29th, 2019 at approximately 0307 hours. CAL FIRE San Diego County Firefighter’s Benevolent Fund has established the Katkov Family Support Fund and is accepting donations.   All of the funds collected are used for providing direct support for Yaro’s family.  The CAL FIRE San Diego County Firefighter’s Benevolent Fund is a 501c3 non-profit organize.
